So Amazing!
As I sit here, penning down my thoughts on the cusp of 2023, I can't help but marvel at the whirlwind of a year that's drawing to a close. Honestly, it feels a bit surreal to admit it, but I had an AMAZING year! And there, I said it. But here's the kicker – it took me more than a few pauses to muster the courage to type those words. Why? Because as leaders, we often dance on a tightrope, tiptoeing around the fear of being labeled as arrogant or, heaven forbid, a braggart.
In a world that applauds stoicism and resilience, expressing unbridled joy can feel like navigating a field of social landmines, especially when you're steering the ship. The hesitancy is real, the worry palpable. Will my team think I've lost touch with reality? Will they roll their eyes and mutter, "Must be nice"? These are the thoughts that sneak in as we contemplate sharing our victories, big or small.
But let's break it down. Why does it feel so darn hard for leaders to shout from the rooftops, "I'm happy, and things are going well!"? Is it the fine line between confidence and arrogance? The constant fear of seeming detached from the struggles of the team? The worry that our joy might overshadow the collective challenges we face?
As we step into a season that's all about comfort and joy, it's time to unravel this mystery. There's this peculiar myth that effective leadership means eternally wearing the armor of resilience, never letting a crack show. But I'm here to argue that vulnerability and authenticity are the secret sauce. Sharing our moments of triumph doesn't negate the battles fought; instead, it humanizes the leader, making them someone you'd share a high-five with, not just a conference room.
Celebrate and Create a Culture of Joy
So, here's the challenge for this season of warmth and celebration – let's debunk the myth that leaders should be emotionless juggernauts. Let's flip the script and embrace the uncomfortable truth that joy and success are not only allowed but encouraged. By doing so, we're not just celebrating our own wins; we're creating a culture where everyone feels empowered to share their joys, big and small.
In the grand scheme of leadership, it's about finding the delicate equilibrium between resilience in adversity and an open embrace of the joyous moments. Let's cast aside the fear of being labeled boastful and find strength in sharing the genuine happiness that fuels our journey. After all, leading with joy isn't just a personal victory; it's a catalyst for a workplace culture that thrives on shared successes and collective well-being.
As leaders, let's lead the charge in rewriting the narrative. Let's redefine what it means to be at the helm – not as unfeeling captains but as captains who revel in the victories, dance in the rain, and, above all, find joy even in the sweet taste of success.
Happy Holidays!!
